A radiant barrier is a reflective material (usually aluminum foil-based) installed in your attic to reduce heat transfer. Instead of absorbing heat like traditional insulation, it reflects radiant heat away from your home, keeping things cooler — especially in hot climates like Florida.
How It Works

Common Installation Methods
- Stapled to rafters
This is the method Comfort Zone uses. The foil is attached to the underside of the roof framing so it can also be installed over the AC ducts in your attic.
- Laid flat over attic floor insulation
Not performed by Comfort Zone. Less common in Florida, can trap moisture, and is generally ineffective.
- Spray-on radiant coatings
Not performed by Comfort Zone. Applied directly to roof decking, but not commonly done in Florida and widely considered ineffective.

- Ventilation matters: Comfort Zone staples from the peak to the weave near the soffits, pushing air upward behind the barrier and out of your ridge vents so your attic has efficient ventilation.
- Not a replacement for insulation: It compliments insulation by providing a cooler attic.
